Govt’s bid to evacuate Bhrikutimandap disrupts loan sharking victims’ talks

KATHMANDU: The scheduled dialogue between the government and loan sharking victims at 11 am was thwarted by the government’s attempt to clear the protestors’ shelter site at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.

The victims of loan sharking, who reached Kathmandu after a 23-day-long foot march, had engaged in discussions on Sunday evening.

“The police arrived with a letter from the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, and tried to forcefully vacate the area, claiming it falls under the control of the Social Welfare Council,” stated Nirg Navin, representing the protestors.

He denounced the incident as unethical and driven by ill intentions.
