Ruling coalition to investigate floor-crossing incident in Koshi

BIRATNAGAR: The ruling coalition of Koshi Province has decided to investigate the floor-crossing incident that resulted in the defeat of the coalition candidate, Champa Karki, in the National Assembly elections.

Despite the victory of Nepali Congress leader and coalition candidate Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Maoist Center leader and coalition candidate Karki faced defeat in the January 25 elections.

After a meeting held on Friday, the leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-Unified Socialist, and Janata Samajbadi Party jointly issued a statement expressing their commitment to investigating the matter of defeat in Koshi.

In the National Assembly elections held on Wednesday, Rukmani Koirala from the CPN-UML secured victory in Koshi Province. Although the UML had formed an alliance with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, their votes would not have sufficed to lead Koirala to victory without the floor-crossing of the ruling coalition’s voters.
