KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, said all individuals involved in cooperative fraud will be subject to thorough investigation, regardless of their political affiliations.

Speaking at the Tamu Journalism Award distribution program held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Gurung said no one implicated in the cooperative fraud case will be spared due to their ties to any party.

He criticized the narrative suggesting that only leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party have faced consequences, stressing that the law applies equally to all.

“The investigation conducted by the state must be supported by everyone and court orders should be respected,” Gurung said, adding that any attempt to influence the investigation process is unlawful.

The Minister, who also serves as the government spokesperson, disclosed that Tuesday’s cabinet meeting decided to recommend an ordinance on cooperatives to the President.

He said the ordinance aimed to strengthen regulatory oversight and address widespread issues in the cooperative sector.

Gurung also highlighted the government’s commitment to national security, economic growth, and prosperity.

As part of advancing the communication and information technology sector, he announced plans to formulate a policy for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and promptly enact legislation.

“During my tenure, I aim to establish a systematic and efficient framework in Nepal’s communication and information technology sector,” he said.
