NRCS begins blood transfusion service from its reconstructed building

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) began its blood transfusion service from its reconstructed building at Exhibition Road in Bhrikutimandap.

The NRCS central blood transfusion service building was damaged by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake and was temporarily shifted to Tahachal via Balkumari of Lalitpur.

The service was first launched on July 27, 1966 (Saun 12, 2023 BS) from a small chamber provided by the Bir Hospital, the oldest hospital in the country.

On December 22, 1982, it was moved to its building constructed with the support of the Australian Red Cross at the Exhibition Road. Now its service is nationwide.

The reconstruction project was supported by the Thai Red Cross (Thailand Government), according to NRCS general secretary Bhupatilal Shrestha.
