Eight arrested for coercing marriages with Chinese citizens



SUNSARI: Police have arrested eight individuals in Sunsari on charges of coercing marriages with Chinese citizens.

Among those arrested are a 16-year-old girl from Chhathar Jorpati-2 in Dhankuta, 33-year-old Chinese national Li Teng, 43-year-old Deepak Darji from Udaypur Belka Municipality-9, 42-year-old Badri Bikram Rai, and 20-year-old Shital Gurung from Syangja Putlibazar Municipality-12.

Also apprehended were 20-year-old Roshin Maya Tamang from Rural Municipality-3, and 35-year-old Chinese nationals Dong Shihao and Wu Heji.

The 16-year-old girl from Dhankuta was intercepted by police while being taken to Chatara for her marriage to Li Teng.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Chandra Timilsina stated that an investigation has been initiated based on suspicions of human trafficking involvement.
