Ramechhap landslide claims two lives, eight missing

The bodies of two people, including an infant, have been found among those who went missing in a landslide last night in Doramba-Shailung Rural Municipality-3, Lekkhark Pokhari village, Ramechhap. Inspector Kaushal Neupane said that the bodies of 30-year-old Chandika Shrestha and 18-month-old Amus Shrestha were recovered. Three houses were swept away by the landslide, and everyone in those houses is currently missing. It is not clear how many people were in the three houses swept away by the landslide, reports said. The landslide occurred at around 3:30 a.m. last night, affecting four houses in the area.

Dry landslide obstructs two highways

Araniko and Helambu highways have been obstructed due to dry landslides that occurred at Bhumlu rural municipality-8 of Kavrepalanchowk along Araniko highway and Panchkhal municipality-4 along Araniko Highway. According to the District Police Office, both highways have been obstructed due to dry landslide that occurred this morning.

15 passengers injured in bus accident on Mugling-Narayangadh road

A bus accident occurred on the bend of the Mugling-Narayangadh road section on Sunday morning. A video shared on social media shows the bus lying on its side. According to Chitwan Police, 15 passengers were injured in the incident involving the Sudurpaschim 01-00-2-1332 bus, which was traveling from Mahendranagar to Kathmandu. Authorities believe the bus lost control before crashing.

Six arrested for allegedly gang-raping 16-year-old girl in Jhapa

Six individuals have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl, with the assaults occurring at separate locations on the same night. Those arrested include 19-year-old Anish Limbu of Arjundhara Municipality-5, 34-year-old Saroj Rai of Arjundhara-8, 25-year-old Keshav Magar, 20-year-old Sudeep Shrestha, and Sujan Dangi. The district police office reported that one person involved in the incident is currently at large. According to the police, the assaults took place on Friday night. After the victim filed a complaint on Saturday, the police apprehended six individuals connected to the case.

Gold price up by Rs 1,000 per tola today

Gold price increased by Rs 1,000 per tola in the Nepali market today (Sunday). According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation, the price of gold has increased by 500 rupees per tola, reaching 152,400 rupees today. The price of gold was Rs 151,400 on Friday. Additionally, the price of silver increased by 35 rupees per tola, and it is now being traded at 1,850 rupees per tola, according to the Federation.

National ID not mandatory for Social Security allowance: SC

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an interim order prohibiting the requirement of national identity cards for receiving social security allowances. A bench comprising Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Til Prasad Shrestha on Friday ordered that National Identity cards are not to be mandated for Social Security allowances at this time. Govinda Prasad Ghimire, Information Officer of the Supreme Court, confirmed that until a final decision is made, the implementation of the requirement for national identity cards in order to access social security allowances has been suspended.

Six days left for Ncell’s license renewal

With just six days remaining before the expiration of Ncell’s telecommunication service operation license, the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has issued “urgent correspondence” to both the concerned ministry and Ncell Axiata Limited. Despite several reminders, Ncell has yet to renew its license by paying the prescribed fee. In response, the NTA has reached out to the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication to inform them of the situation. Additionally, the NTA has urged Ncell to complete the renewal process by submitting the fee on time.

Hilux recovered from 25 feet depth in Sunkoshi river; three passengers still missing

A Hilux Jeep (Province 3 Kha 023 Cha 6366) veered off the road and plunged into the Sunkoshi River on Saturday evening at Kudule, Golanjhor-1, Sindhuli district. The vehicle was returning to Kathmandu from Halesi Mahadev Temple, Khotang, when the accident occurred. According to police reports, there were four people inside the vehicle. A diving team from the Armed Police Force (APF) was deployed to search for the missing individuals. The vehicle was recovered from a depth of about 25 feet in the Sunkoshi River, but three passengers—Abin BK, 32 (the driver), Pranit Syagu, 30, and Balram Ghatuwa from Suryabinayak Municipality, Bhaktapur—are still missing.

Nepal’s electricity consumption triples over eight years

Electricity consumption in Nepal has tripled over the past eight years. In the fiscal year 2072/73, the consumption stood at 3.72 billion units, which surged to 10.2 billion units in the fiscal year 2080/81, marking an increase of 6.51 billion units, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). In the last fiscal year, 4.31 billion units were consumed for domestic purposes, while 3.69 billion units were used for industrial purposes. Per capita electricity consumption has also risen significantly, from 131 units to 400 units over the same period.

CPN (US) swears in central committee members two months after general convention 

Nearly two months after its general convention, the CPN (Unified Socialist) has finalized its central committee members. During the convention held two months ago, Madhav Kumar Nepal was elected as Chairman, and Ghanshyam Bhusal as General Secretary, but the central committee was left incomplete with only 93 members, including senior leader Jhalanath Khanal. On Sunday, the party swore in 251 new members, bringing the total number of central committee members to 344.

NEPSE falls 2.68% to 2,894.57

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index dropped by 2.68% today (Sunday), closing at 2,894.57 points, which is a decrease of 79.88 points from the previous session. In contrast, the last session had a slight increase of 6.01 points, finishing at 2,974.46 points. Today’s trading session saw the index start at 2,987.06 points and fluctuate considerably, peaking at 2,990.04 points and hitting a low of 2,885.39 points before closing. There was significant trading activity with 333 stocks traded through 218,578 transactions, involving 42,686,640 shares and generating a turnover of Rs. 19.74 billion.

Nepal advances to SAFF U20 Championship finals after beating Bhutan in penalty shootout

Nepal advanced to the finals of the SAFF U20 Championship after defeating Bhutan in a penalty shootout. The semi-final match, held on Sunday at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, ended with Nepal winning 4-1 in the tie-breaker. The match went to penalties after both teams scored 1-1 during regular time. As the home team, Nepal will now face the winner of the second semi-final between India and Bangladesh.

12 APF officials, including DIG, file writ petition at SC to annul 30-year service term

Twelve officials of the Armed Police Force (APF), including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Durga Prasad Bhattarai, filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Sunday, seeking the annulment of the 30-year service term limitation. These officials are scheduled to retire on Bhadra 16 due to the service term limitations. The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for Tuesday. Previously, in response to a similar petition filed by Nepal Police officials, the Supreme Court issued an order to remove the 30-year service term limitation for Nepal Police personnel.

Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi to visit Nepal on Monday

Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, is scheduled to visit Nepal on Monday for a two-day official visit. He is visiting Nepal at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba. During his visit, Foreign Minister Busaidi will engage in bilateral talks aimed at further strengthening Nepal-Oman relations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister Busaidi will conclude his visit and return to Oman on August 27.
