Govt plans to make secondary education compulsory and free: Minister Bhattarai



KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Bidhya Bhattarai announced that the current government is planning to make secondary education both compulsory and free.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Education Day-2081 Main Organizing Committee on Sunday, Minister Bhattarai pledged to implement education-related acts and laws effectively to enforce this provision.

She emphasized the importance of timely amendments to relevant education laws and mentioned that the Committee would encourage provincial governments and relevant agencies to celebrate National Education Day in a grand manner.

The Minister also requested the 130-member Main Organizing Committee to develop week-long celebratory programs at all local levels.

The meeting was convened to discuss plans for the celebration with relevant ministries and agencies, as well as to form sub-committees in preparation for National Education Day.

The meeting also focused on selecting a suitable slogan for this year’s National Education Day, which is celebrated annually on the second day of Asoj month.

It was also shared that letters have been sent to the concerned agencies inviting applications and recommendations for various decorations and awards to be given to outstanding students on the occasion.
