UML lawmaker Bhattarai calls for inquiry into Prachanda and Basnet over dedicated and trunk line dispute

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai has proposed seeking clarification regarding a decision made by the former Cabinet in connection with a dedicated and trunk line dispute.

Speaking at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives, Bhattarai emphasized the need for an explanation about the decision made by the government on Baishakh 27, 2081.

He argued that the Cabinet’s decision, made at that time, was controversial and overstepped the jurisdiction of the Public Accounts Committee.

“The then Prime Minister and Energy Minister must be questioned,” Bhattarai asserted.

At the time, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ was the Prime Minister, and Shakti Bahadur Basnet of the Maoist Center was the Energy Minister.

Bhattarai pointed out that the Maoist Center has held the Energy Ministry for the past nine years, providing sufficient grounds for an inquiry.

He also suggested that the committee follow the report prepared by a committee led by Dr. Minendra Rijal on the dedicated and trunk line dispute.
