Funds secured to rebuild 700 quake-damaged school buildings

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance is to manage funds necessary for the reconstruction of school buildings that were destroyed in the Jajarkot earthquake.

For this, funds from the President Educational Reform Program are to be transferred to rebuild the school buildings.

Accordingly, following a discussion at the Finance Ministry today, Finance Minister Barshman Pun and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shresth agreed to spent the budget of the President Educational Reform Program on the reconstruction of school buildings, according to Finance Minister Pune’s secretariat.

Following the agreement, Finance Minister Pun has instructed to spend the remaining amount allocated for the president educational reform program in the current fiscal year for the reconstruction of the school buildings in Jajarkot.

It may be noted that more than 700 school buildings in Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim, Bajhang and other neighbouring districts were damaged in the Jajarkot earthquake.

The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale with its epicenter at Lamidanda of Barekot Rural Municipality-1 of Jajarkot took place on November 3, 2023.
