KATHMANDU: The ruling party, CPN-UML, has stated that the demonstration organized by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as illegal, coinciding with the ongoing implementation of the Special Parliamentary Inquiry Committee’s report regarding the misuse of cooperative savings funds.

Party General Secretary Shankar Pokharel issued a statement on Thursday, emphasizing the collective responsibility to support the investigation, prosecution, and judicial processes.

He asserted that, based on the findings of the Parliamentary Special Committee, it is essential for everyone to aid in the ongoing proceedings against the accused.

UML highlighted the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of the criminal justice system by ensuring that investigations, prosecutions, and defenses are independent, fearless, and scientifically rigorous.

Following the arrest of the president in a cooperative fraud case, leaders and supporters of RSP have been staging continuous protests.

UML labeled these protests as illegal, stating, “Gathering more than five people to obstruct a national servant from performing legally prescribed duties is, in itself, a crime. It is completely inappropriate for a member of the Federal Parliament to engage in such actions or encourage others to do so.”

The party has urged individuals to refrain from any activities that might impede the investigations and prosecutions carried out by authorized government agencies.

Additionally, UML’s statement criticized discussions surrounding Rabi Lamichhane’s arrest with government officials and party leadership.

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of RSP have continued to protest in the streets of Pokhara.
