KATHMANDU: With the festive season approaching and markets thriving, the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has ramped up its market monitoring efforts to ensure that goods sold are of high quality and fairly priced.

Three monitoring teams have been mobilized by the Department in accordance with the Food Purity and Quality Act, 2081.

On Monday, the inspection team visited several locations, including Gautam Sweets at New Road, Swastik Sweets and Snacks at Indrachwok, and Corner Fresh Gundpak at New Road, as reported by spokesperson Mohan Krishna Maharjan.

During these inspections, the team discovered the use of artificial coloring, the reuse of oil, and violations of personal hygiene standards. The confectioneries were directed to address these issues promptly.

Additionally, the team conducted an inspection at Prashamsa Collection and Refine Processing Centre in Godawari municipality-11, where they disposed of 72 cans of substandard ghee. Local representatives were present during this operation.

In Madhyapur Thimi municipality-3 of Bhaktapur, two stores were found to have various inedible items, unsafe storage conditions, and expired goods.

The monitoring team instructed these stores to maintain visible price lists and to update their business registration documents.
