KATHMANDU: A hearing is taking place regarding a writ petition filed on behalf of Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur embroiled in controversy.

The petition is scheduled for Tuesday in the court of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut.

On Monday, Prasai’s son, Niraj Prasai, registered a writ petition for habeas corpus following his father’s arrest by police at their residence on Sunday afternoon.

The Kathmandu District Court subsequently granted the police an extension for his custody.

In response to Prasai’s arrest, supporters have staged protests in Kathmandu, Jhapa, and other locations.

The arrest was prompted by a complaint filed by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) central member Tika Sangraula (Jwala) and other women who alleged various offenses against Prasai.

The accusations included character assassination, involvement in prostitution, and making objectionable statements.

Following this complaint, the police acted with court approval to detain Prasai.
