Former Home Minister Lamichhane questioned until 1 AM in cooperative fraud investigation

Former Home Minister and Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, was questioned by the parliamentary investigation committee until 1 AM last night in connection with an ongoing cooperative fraud investigation. Lamichhane, who previously served as the managing director of Galaxy Television, was summoned to Singha Durbar at around 3 PM on Friday, where he was interrogated regarding his suspected involvement in the case. The questioning session lasted late into the night, with the report being finalized at 1:05 AM, according to Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairman of the Committee. Speaking to the media after his statement, Lamichhane denied any involvement in the fraud.

SAFF U-20 Championship semi-finals fixtures confirmed

The semi-final fixtures for the SAFF U-20 Championship have been confirmed following the conclusion of the group stage. In the final group stage match, India secured a 1-0 victory over the Maldives at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato. This defeat led to the Maldives’ elimination from the tournament, while India advanced to the semi-finals as the group winner. Bhutan has also secured a place in the semi-finals from the same group. From the other group, Nepal had already secured their spot in the semi-finals and will now face Bhutan on Sunday. Meanwhile, India is set to compete against Bangladesh on Monday.

Egg prices increased as demand surges following Bhadra 

The demand for eggs has surged with the start of the lunar month of Bhadra, leading to a price hike by poultry farms. Traditionally, during the holy month of Shrawan, many Hindus observe fasting and adopt a vegetarian diet, resulting in decreased egg consumption. However, with the onset of Bhadra, the demand for eggs has rebounded. Binod Pokharel, Executive Director of Daunne Agro Farm Limited, confirmed that poultry farms have raised egg prices in response to the increased demand.

Indian Minister Khadse arrives in Kathmandu, assesses condition of injured bus accident victims

Raksha Khadse, India’s Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday to meet the injured survivors of the recent bus accident and to assist with the repatriation of the deceased. The tragic accident occurred on Friday when a passenger bus carrying Indian tourists plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Ainpahara, Anbu Khaireni Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun, along the Prithviraj Highway. The incident has claimed the lives of 27 passengers.

Hooliganism in universities unacceptable, says Education Minister Bhattarai

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Bidya Bhattarai, has stated that hooliganism in universities will not be tolerated and will receive no political protection. Speaking to media persons at Bharatpur Airport this morning, Minister Bhattarai emphasized the need to curb violent activities within academic institutions. She noted that security measures were requested from the Home Minister to address the recent disturbances at Tribhuvan University. The minister stressed that the incident at TU was not about politics but rather a disruptive ruckus.

Dengue reported in all districts except Humla and Mustang

Dengue and cholera infections have surged across various parts of the country with the onset of the rainy season. According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, dengue infections have spread to 75 districts. Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Head of the Department of Entomological Disease Branch, confirmed that all districts except Humla and Mustang have reported dengue cases. A total of 5,119 people have been infected with dengue across these 75 districts, and three deaths have been reported so far this year.

Rabi Lamichhane claims to have presented evidence proving his innocence in fraud case

Former Home Minister and Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has stated that he has submitted evidence to the parliamentary probe committee to prove his innocence in the ongoing cooperative fraud investigation. Speaking to the media at Bharatpur Airport today, Lamichhane asserted that he has provided substantial evidence to refute the allegations against him. “The committee was formed to investigate the case based on evidence, and I took the opportunity to clear the allegations put forth against me,” he said.

Nepal imports smartphones worth over Rs 3.46 billion in a single month

The import of digital gadgets, particularly smartphones, has surged in Nepal, with the country importing smartphones worth over Rs 3.46 billion in the last month alone (Saun). This information was provided by the Customs Department. The first month of the current fiscal year also saw a significant trade deficit of Rs 116.15 billion. During this period, Nepal conducted trade worth Rs 140.60 billion. Nepal’s exports amounted to Rs 12.22 billion, while imports reached Rs 128.37 billion in the first month of the fiscal year. However, compared to the same period last fiscal year, imports declined by 0.67 percent, and exports dropped by 9.63 percent.

Tanahun Bus Accident: Bodies of Indian nationals repatriated

The bodies of 25 Indian nationals who lost their lives in the Tanahun bus accident have been repatriated to India. The tragic accident occurred on Friday when a passenger bus carrying 43 Indian tourists plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Ainpahara, Anbu Khaireni Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun, along the Prithviraj Highway. The deceased were transported to India by an Indian Air Force aircraft after autopsies were conducted in Chitwan. Of the 27 victims, two bodies were sent to India via road.

Four arrested in Jhapa gang rape case; two suspects still at large

Four individuals have been arrested on charges of gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in Arjun Dhara-5 of Jhapa district. The victim was assaulted by four youths. Following her statement, police have apprehended Sunil Rajbanshi, Keshav Kumar Magar, Saroj Rai, and Anish Limbu, all from Arjun Dhara-7. Authorities are still searching for two additional suspects.

Jeep plunges into Sunkoshi river, three missing

A jeep veered off the road and plunged into the Sunkoshi River on Saturday, leaving three people missing. The accident occurred in Kudule, Golanjhor-1, Sindhuli district, while the vehicle was en route to Kathmandu. According to police reports, there were four people in the jeep at the time of the incident. One person managed to survive by jumping from the vehicle and sustained injuries.
