Construction of Tamor-Mewa Hydropower Project begins



TAPLEJUNG: The construction of the Tamor-Mewa Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 128 megawatts, has commenced.

Promoted by Spark Hydroelectric Company Limited, the project is expected to be completed in four years.

Constituent Assembly Member Sanchapal Maden and the company’s chairman, Bhanendra Kumar Limbu, laid the foundation stone on Thursday.

The project site is located in Aathrai Tribeni Rural Municipality and Phungling Municipality in Taplejung district.

During the ceremony, the Mayor of Phungling Municipality, Amir Maden, highlighted the project’s contribution to the district’s development.

“The development of this electricity project will pave the way for economic prosperity in the district. The project will also provide shares to local residents,” he said.

Mayor Maden urged the project promoters to prioritize local employment and ensure corporate social responsibility at the project site.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 24.32 billion.
