Foreign Minister to return home from Delhi



KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba is set to return to Nepal this evening after undergoing a routine follow-up medical check-up at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, India.

She traveled to Delhi on Friday for a bilateral total hip replacement (THR) follow-up after arriving from Europe.

During her stay, Rana underwent medical examinations at Apollo Hospital on Saturday and Sunday. As this visit was focused on her health, no formal meetings were scheduled. However, on Friday, she addressed the Indo-Nepal Economic Conference in New Delhi, where she raised key bilateral concerns.

In her address, the Minister requested additional air routes from India to enhance the operational capacity of Pokhara and Gautam Buddha International Airports. She also encouraged Indian airlines to increase flights to Nepal and urged Indian investors to explore opportunities in Nepal, emphasizing the strong economic ties between the two countries.

On December 7 Rana left for Europe with a primary mission to advocate for climate justice on behalf of Nepal at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

On December 19, she presented Nepal’s case to the full bench, stressing upon the adverse impacts of carbon emissions from developed nations on vulnerable countries like Nepal and the need for fair compensation.

During her European visit, she also held discussions with key officials, including EU Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra and Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen, in Brussels, Belgium.

On December 17, Rana addressed a conference on equal rights in Berlin, Germany, where she highlighted Nepal’s significant progress in promoting the inclusion and rights of LGBTQ+ individuals.
