Beekeeping fetches handsome income for returnee migrant in Dang



DANG: Shreedhan Gharti of Supaila Khuti in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-18 in Dang district is busy in beekeeping these days.

Gharti, a 57-year-old returnee migrant worker, has been commercially running beekeeping venture for the last 16 years. Currently, he has 150 beehives which produce an impressive 7 tonnes of honey annually.

This venture is generating an annual turnover of Rs 1.6 million out of which Rs 700,000 is net income, Gharti proudly shared.

He is selling a kilogramme of honey at Rs 500. He, who ventured into beekeeping after being trained for it, sells honey from his home and credits the quality of his product for most of his sales.

He emphasized the importance of meticulous management while beekeeping, especially during monsoon and winter seasons for optimal honey production and for beehive to thrive.

“Since I commercially started beekeeping, this business has provided me with a reliable source of income without having to turn to any other profession for income generation,” Gharti humbly boasted of the success of his business.

According to him, beekeeping business has been a very convenient job for him given his elderly age when he is not able to do other physically demanding works.

He suggested the aspiring beekeepers to do adequate research about this business and take bees to little higher elevation in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City for grazing to yield more quality production.
