KOICA-KAAN donates medical equipment worth NPR 1,764,085 to Benighat Basic Hospital

KATHMANDU: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the KOICA Alumni Association of Nepal (KAAN) have provided medical equipment valued at NPR 1,764,085.50 to Benighat Basic Hospital in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, Dhading.

The official handover ceremony took place on September 20, 2024, at Benighat Basic Hospital, attended by representatives from KOICA-KAAN and the local municipality.

The agreement was signed in May 2024, with Nabaraj Gautam, President of KAAN, and Krishna Bahadur Thapaliya (Bibek), Chairperson of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, in attendance.

The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance healthcare services and facilities at Benighat Basic Hospital.

KOICA-KAAN believes that this support will strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide improved services to the residents of Benighat Rural Municipality and surrounding communities, including Chepang populations.

They expect that this contribution will boost the hospital’s overall performance, enabling it to better serve the local population.

Benighat Basic Hospital has been providing healthcare to the community for many years and was recently upgraded from a health post to a 15-bedded basic hospital.

Through the support of KOICA-KAAN, the hospital received 17 essential medical equipment items, including a Coulter machine (Hematology Analyzer), a patient cardiac monitor, ECG machine trolleys, full Fowler beds, medicine trolleys, a nebulizer machine, a Littmann stethoscope, IV stands, an autoclave machine, an X-ray view box, a washing machine, a dressing bed, medicine dispensary racks, an electric cast saw, surgical instruments, a syringe set, and an electrolyte analyzer machine.

This support is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s ability to serve the community more effectively.

Jeong-Eun Song, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Nepal, reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to improving Nepal’s health sector through KOICA’s initiatives.

She highlighted KOICA’s role in establishing hospitals across Nepal and training health professionals to elevate medical services.

She commended the dedication of the Benighat Basic Hospital team and expressed optimism that this support would lead to substantial improvements in healthcare delivery.
