BIRATNAGAR: Devraj Ghimire, Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), stated that political efforts have commenced to move forward with amending the Constitution.

Speaking to the media at Biratnagar airport today, the Speaker emphasized the importance of broader political consensus on the amendment procedures, the specific changes needed, and the timeline for these amendments.

He also highlighted a legal vacuum that hampers the effective implementation of federalism.

Ghimire noted that challenges could be addressed with the conclusion of key legislation, including the Civil Service Bill, the Bill on the Operation of Nepal Police, and the Education Bill.

The Speaker expressed optimism that the upcoming winter session of parliament could yield significant results, including the endorsement of the Bill on Transitional Justice, the passage of the current fiscal year’s budget, and the presentation of a report by the Parliamentary Special Probe Committee regarding the misappropriation of Cooperative funds.
