Govt forms taskforce to identify issues of land acquisition
The government has formed a taskforce to identify and troubleshoot the issues on forest, environment and land acquisition witnessed while developing the projects under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. The gpvernment has formed a seven-member taskforce to carry out the assignment. Secretary at the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat Suresh Acharya will lead the taskforce.
Nepali Army seeks 280 officers for recruitment
The Nepali Army (NA) has announced an open call for applications to fill 280 officer positions in general service. On Friday, the Nepali Army Recruitment Selection Directorate, Army Headquarters, released a notice inviting applications for these vacant officer posts. The recruitment process will be conducted through open and inclusive competition. The notice specifies that the recruitment will include positions reserved for various categories.
Cloudburst in Kanchanpur caused Rs 1.5 billion in loss: Administration
The cloudburst occurred in Kanchanpur district on July 7 caused damages to the property worth Rs 1.57 billion, the District Administration Office said. The Office stated that physical infrastructure, crops, industries, livestock and other properties witnessed severe damage from the cloudburst-triggered flooding. Acting Chief District Officer Parshuram Pokharel said the offices in the district have reported total damages worth Rs 1.57 billion from the flood and inundation caused by the cloudburst. It is said that the offices in the district carried out an assessment of the loss and damage. The agriculture sector, the most impacted area by the cloudburst, witnessed more than Rs 654 million in loss.
UN welcomes Nepal’s adoption of Transitional Justice legislation
The United Nations (UN) has welcomed Nepal’s adoption of new transitional justice legislation, marking a significant step in the nation’s journey towards accountability and reconciliation. UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk expressed support for the amendment bill, titled the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth, and Reconciliation Commission Act. This legislation aims to ensure truth and accountability for serious human rights violations committed by all parties during Nepal’s civil war. Türk confirmed that the UN Office is prepared to assist Nepal as it advances this crucial phase of the peace process.
Gold price down by Rs 500 per tola today
Gold and silver prices decreased in the Nepali market today (Friday). According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation, the price of gold has dropped by 500 rupees per tola, reaching 151,400 rupees on Friday. This follows Thursday’s price of 151,900 rupees per tola.
Local level by-elections likely to be held in December
The Election Commission (EC) has announced preparations for local level by-elections set to take place in December, covering a total of 35 vacant seats across various districts in all seven provinces. The EC has initiated the process by calling for voter list registrations, addressing positions that remain unfilled for various reasons. The registration for voter lists, which began on August 13, aims to fill 34 vacant posts, including heads of municipalities, deputy heads, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and ward chairpersons. To address the inconvenience faced by citizens due to these vacancies, the Commission is working to fill the positions through these by-elections.
Parliamentary probe committee records statement of Galaxy Television’s Joshi in cooperative fraud case
The parliamentary investigation committee has recorded the statement of Chabilal Joshi Banjade, a business partner of GB Rai, the owner of Galaxy Television, in connection with a cooperative fraud case. Joshi was summoned to Singha Durbar for interrogation regarding alleged embezzlement of funds from the Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, and Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan. These funds are suspected to have been diverted through Gorkha Media. The committee is also set to record the statement of Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the former managing director of Galaxy Television, later today.
Revealing Rabi Lamichhane’s misdeeds is not against RSP: Mukul Dhakal
Mukul Dhakal, the suspended general secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has clarified that his decision to expose the misdeeds of party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane is not an act against the party. In response to the party’s decision to seek clarification from him, Dhakal took to social media to assert his commitment to freeing the party from those involved in fraud, corruption, and passport misuse. He also directly challenged Lamichhane to disprove his allegations. “I can prove that Mr. Rabi Lamichhane is a fraud, corrupt, and a criminal who misused his passport,” Dhakal wrote in a Facebook post.

The parliamentary investigation committee has recorded the statement of former Home Minister and Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, in connection with a cooperative fraud case. The committee had previously recorded the statement of Chabilal Joshi Banjade, a business partner of GB Rai, the owner of Galaxy Television, in relation to the same case. Both Lamichhane and Joshi are under investigation for alleged embezzlement involving funds from the Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, the Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, and the Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan. It is claimed that these funds were diverted through Gorkha Media.
Youth end fast-unto-death after four-point agreement signed for Kamala river bridge construction
Youths who had been staging a fast-unto-death for the past four days, demanding the construction of a new bridge linking Dhanusha and Siraha districts over the Kamala River along the Hulaki Highway, have ended their protest. The fast was broken after Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Satish Kumar Singh, held talks with the protesters and signed a four-point agreement. Chief Minister Singh offered juice to the protesting youths, signaling the end of their fast. The agreement was signed by Pravin Kumar Yadav, Coordinator of the Struggle Committee for the Construction of a New Kamala Bridge on Hulaki Road, and Chief Minister Singh.
Charges filed against SP Sahu for using fake educational documents
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed charges against Bir Singh Sahu, the former Superintendent of the Armed Police Force at Nepal’s 43 Reserve Battalion Headquarters in Banbehda, Kailali. Sahu is accused of securing his position by submitting a fraudulent bachelor’s degree certificate. The CIAA has submitted a chargesheet to the Special Court in Kathmandu, alleging that the degree certificate used by Sahu to gain promotion to the role of Police Inspector was forged.
Permafrost burst triggers avalanche in Mustang, blocking Ghatte Khola
A sudden permafrost burst beneath Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8,137m) triggered an avalanche in Thasang Rural Municipality-2 of Mustang district on Friday. The avalanche occurred around 1 pm, causing debris to form a landslide dam that blocked the flow of water in Ghatte Khola, according to Bhim Prasad Thakali, a ward member and local resident. “A landslide dam has been detected by a drone approximately 6 km from the site,” Thakali added. So far, there have been no reports of damage to human life or property, but the risk of the landslide dam bursting remains high.
Tanahu Bus Accident: Death toll rises to 27
A passenger bus plunged into the Marsyangdi River near Ainapahara in Anbukhaireni, Tanahu, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of 27 people, according to Chief District Officer of Tanahu, Janardan Gautam. Among the deceased, 15 are female, 11 are male, and one is a minor. The bus, bearing the Indian number plate UP 53 FT 7623, was carrying 43 passengers at the time of the accident.
Five athletes nominated for People’s Choice Award

Foreign Minister Rana claims India visit a success
Foreign Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has claimed that her recent official visit to India was successful. During a meeting of the NC central executive committee on Friday, Dr. Rana informed the members about her visit, which took place from August 18-22. She emphasized that the trip significantly contributed to strengthening goodwill between Nepal and India. Dr. Rana expressed confidence that the visit had further solidified the friendly, cooperative, and multidimensional relations between the two countries.
195 people killed in natural disasters since June 10
Since June 10, continuous rainfall has triggered floods and landslides across various parts of the country, resulting in the deaths of 195 people. According to Nepal Police Spokesperson Dan Bahadur Karki, the fatalities include three people in Kathmandu Valley, 27 in Koshi Province, eight in Madhes Province, 36 in Bagmati Province, 56 in Gandaki Province, 37 in Lumbini Province, 13 in Karnali Province, and 15 in Sudurpaschim Province. Several others have been injured due to these natural disasters, including two people in Koshi Province, one in Madhes Province, 41 in Bagmati Province, two in Gandaki Province, and one each in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
