KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has established a committee to investigate allegations that former Minister and lawmaker Birendra Mahatto bribed a middleman Rs 5,000 to authenticate his son’s certificate.

Mahatto previously disclosed in a House of Representatives meeting that he had paid a bribe to officials at a subordinate body of the Education Ministry to obtain equivalence for his son’s certificate.

The Ministry has appointed a three-member committee, led by Spokesperson and Deputy Director General Basanta Prasad Koirala from the Center for Education and Human Resource Development.

The committee is tasked with probing the matter and is required to submit its report within seven days.
