KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast Division has issued a warning following increased water levels in the rivers of Kathmandu Valley.

Heavy overnight rains in Sundarijal, Kapan, Naikap, Babarmahal, and adjacent areas have led to a rise in river levels, according to the Division.

Currently, the Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Dhobi Khola rivers are approaching alert levels, with the Khokana water measuring station on the Bagmati River reporting levels exceeding the alert threshold.

Residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant until 9 am, as river levels continue to rise.

Meanwhile, given the persistent downpour, there is a heightened risk of flash floods in the Melamchi, Indrawati, Balefi rivers, and their tributaries in the Sindhupalchowk district.

The Division has urged precautionary measures against potential flooding and landslides.
