SURKHET: Following a federal reshuffle within the ruling coalition, the Maoist Centre has moved to the opposition in Karnali Province after six and a half years.

Four ministers from the party resigned from their posts on Monday, marking the first time the Maoist Centre has been in the opposition since the province government was established.

The realignment at the federal level, where the Nepali Congress and CPN UML formed a new alliance, not only ousted the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government but also paved the way for NC-UML alliances in the provinces.

Karnali Province has seen 18 ministers and two Chief Ministers from the Maoist Centre thus far.

Discussions for forming a new government are underway between NC and UML, directed from the central level, informed Devraj Singh, a member of the Province Assembly from Nepali Congress.
