KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has announced that the government will prioritize the agricultural sector in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, aligning with new government policies and programmes.

Speaking at an event organized by the Konjyosom Rural Municipality, the Prime Minister emphasized that the agricultural sector will greatly benefit from these policies, programmes, and the forthcoming budget.

The focus will be on boosting productivity and creating jobs.

Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the success of the third Investment Summit held on April 28-29, where a draft project was proposed to address Kathmandu Valley’s water needs by sourcing water from the local Thotne River.

He expressed optimism about securing foreign investment for this project.

Additionally, the Prime Minister mentioned the potential of developing certain wards in the rural municipality into new cities, promising a feasibility study for this initiative.

During the event, coinciding with the 2568th Buddha Jayanti, PM Dahal unveiled three Buddha idols representing different forms of Buddha (Konjyosom).

He also highlighted ongoing road development projects, such as Lele-Chandanpur, Nallu-Chaughare-Unyuchaur-Manikhel-Gotikhel, and Birkhedhara-Dalchoki-Sankhu-Ikudol, which he believes will significantly boost the development of south Lalitpur.

PM Dahal underscored the importance of rural economic and tourism promotion, particularly in areas near Kathmandu Valley, which can attract tourists and extend their stay, thereby earning foreign exchange.

He noted the region’s potential in agriculture, vegetable cultivation, dairy farming, and meat production.

He encouraged locals to benefit from agricultural modernization, mechanization, diversification, and marketization.

Konjyosom Rural Municipality, primarily inhabited by the Tamang community, reflects local identity through its name, contributing to cultural diversity and tourism development.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that these initiatives will promote tourism and bolster the identity and self-respect of oppressed communities through the preservation of local language, art, and culture.

PM Dahal acknowledged the collaborative efforts of federal, provincial, and local governments in constructing the Konjyosom Statue, which symbolizes the historical value of the area and showcases joint investment and partnership among the three government tiers.
