KATHMANDU: A group from Madhesh Province arrived in Kathmandu, the federal capital, on Thursday, demanding the preservation of the Chure region.

According to the group, overexploitation and deforestation of the Chure region have triggered a shortage of drinking water in the province’s districts.

The group of 23 individuals began their journey on foot from Saptari, presenting a 12-point demand to preserve the Chure region.

After 25 days of walking, they arrived in Kathmandu today and are currently staging a sit-in at Maitighar.

This is not the first time the group has undertaken such a journey.

Last year, they embarked on a similar 11-day march to Kathmandu with the same demands.

They felt compelled to start the journey again after the government failed to implement the agreement made last year.
