LUMBINI: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has affirmed the government’s stance in elevating Buddha’s teachings, guidance, and birthplace into a global center for peace and spiritual tourism.

Speaking at the 2568th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day Main Ceremony on Thursday, Prime Minister Dahal outlined the government’s efforts to transform Lumbini into a pilgrimage site for millions of Buddhists worldwide and all people seeking spiritual enrichment.

He disclosed that during the third Nepal Investment Summit, a proposal for the Greater Lumbini Development Project was presented to attract foreign investment, underlining its potential to showcase Gautam Buddha’s legacy and enhance Nepal’s contribution to global peace.

“Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, holds immense pride for humanity. It will evolve into the epicenter of Buddhist pilgrimage, driving tourism not only in Lumbini but throughout Nepal,” emphasized the PM.

Prime Minister Dahal underscored Gautam Buddha’s significance as a symbol of peace, unity, and harmony, stressing the profound impact of Buddha’s teachings on Eastern philosophy and Nepal’s global reputation.

Highlighting the inscription on the Ashoka Pillar as evidence of Buddha’s Nepali origins, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating development in Lumbini, recognizing its symbolic importance as a heritage site.

The PM emphasized ongoing efforts to complete the Lumbini Master Plan and enhance archaeological exploration and preservation in Kapilvastu, Devdaha, and Ramgrama areas, with support from international partners.

“The successful realization of the Greater Lumbini Development Project will transform Lumbini into a premier international center for Buddhist philosophy and education,” stated Prime Minister Dahal, urging the Lumbini Development Trust to pursue this vision diligently.

Instructing Lumbini Buddhist University to intensify efforts in promoting Buddhist philosophy, the Prime Minister also announced plans for Nepal to host the Third World Buddhist Summit, building on the success of the 2004 summit hosted by the government.
