Cooperative fraud issue: Meeting of task force taking place

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the task force formed to prepare the Parliamentary Investigation Committee’s Terms of Reference (TOR) concerning the cooperative fraud case is taking place today.

Jiwan Pariyar, a member of the task force, said that the meeting will be held at 3:00 pm at the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs in Singha Durbar.

Although the ruling parties and the opposition have agreed to form an investigation committee for the cooperative fraud issue, the scope of work has not been decided yet.

The opposition party, Nepali Congress, has maintained that since Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane is allegedly involved in the cooperative fraud case, his name has to be categorically included in the TOR.

However, due to the ruling party’s refusal to meet the Nepali Congress’s demands, no solution has been reached so far.

As the ruling and opposition parties remain entrenched in their positions, the parliamentary session has been continuously interrupted.

A four-member committee has been formed under the coordination of Law Minister Padam Giri to finalize the TOR of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee to address the cooperative fraud case.

The committee includes Jiwan Pariyar from Nepali Congress, Mahesh Bartaula from CPN-UML, and Shishir Khanal from Rastriya Swatantra Party.

Additionally, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has been participating in the meetings on behalf of the Nepali Congress.
