Budget shortage impacts landslide control efforts on Beni-Jomsom-Korala road



MYAGDI: Activities aimed at controlling landslides along the Myagdi section of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road, part of the Kaligandaki corridor, have been hampered due to a lack of funds.

This shortage has led to complications in maintaining regular vehicular movement, especially during the rainy season.

The absence of long-term measures to address landslides, stemming from budget constraints, is adversely affecting the infrastructure in the area.

According to Dhurba Jha, the chief of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project, approximately five kilometers of road in the Ghasa section of Mustang, extending from Rahughat, is at risk of landslides.

He pointed out the identification of 14 major landslides along the 40-kilometer Beni-Ghasa section and emphasized the need for additional budget allocation to tackle this issue.

Jha disclosed that an immediate requirement of Rs 8 million is necessary to mitigate landslide risks along this section.

They have submitted a proposal to the Finance Ministry through the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, requesting additional funds.

He expressed frustration over the delays in construction activities caused by the lack of adequate funding.
