KMC imposes Rs 100,000 fine on ruling CPN-UML

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 on the ruling CPN-UML for littering during a public meeting.

On Friday (December 22), the metropolis issued the fine, citing that the environment was polluted by indiscriminate littering on the roads and roadsides during an event held on an open road at Durbarmarg in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-1.

Municipal Police Inspector Leela Raj Gachha sent a letter to the UML central office, stating that the fine of Rs 100,000 was imposed in accordance with the Waste Management Act, 2068 BS, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Finance Act, 2081 BS.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) is an independent official, while UML is led by Prime Minister KP Oli.

Previously, last year, the KMC fined the RPP Rs 5,222 for littering and damaging a traffic island during an event at Bhrikuti Mandap.
