Speaker Ghimire holding discussion on legislative matters with chief whips

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire is holding discussions with the chief whips of political parties and the chairpersons of parliamentary committees that have pending bills for quarterly discussion.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. in the Speaker’s office.

The Speaker aims to engage with the chairpersons to prevent a lack of business in the upcoming Parliament session.

The chairpersons have expressed concerns to the Speaker about difficulties in achieving a quorum for committee meetings when there is no session, particularly when members are out of the district.

Invited to the meeting are Mahesh Bartaula, chief whip of the ruling party CPN-UML; Shyam Kumar Ghimire, chief whip of Nepali Congress; Hitraj Pandey, chief whip of the Maoist Center; Santosh Pariyar, chief whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party; and Gyan Bahadur Shahi, chief whip of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Pending bills for quarterly discussion are on the agenda for the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee; Infrastructure Development Committee; Education, Health and Information Technology Committee; Industry and Commerce and Labor and Consumer Welfare Committee; Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee; and the Finance Committee.
