Koshi Province Assembly budget session prorogued



BIRATNAGAR: The fifth session of the Koshi Province Assembly has been prorogued.

Koshi Province Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista read out a letter received from the Office of Province Chief Parashuram Khapung proroguing the session in accordance with Article 183 (2) of the Constitution.

The session that had commenced on May 13 ran for around four months, meeting 20 times with the allocation of 47 hours 58 minutes and 43 seconds.

The session endorsed three bills except the Finance Bill. The endorsed documents are the Bill to revive the existing provision of the some of Koshi acts, the Bill to amend the Province Civil Service Act and the Bill relating to the Province Agriculture Enterprises Grant Act.

Amidst the session, the Koshi Province Assembly presented and unanimously passed the budget amounting to around Rs 36 billion for the fiscal year 2081-82 BS (2023-24).

The 93-member Koshi PA comprises 40 members from the CPN (UML), 29 from the Nepali Congress, 13 of the CPN (Maoist Centre), four of the CPN (Unified Socialist), and one from the Janata Samajbadi Party.

The UML runs the government in support and participation of the Congress. Talking to RSS, Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki said the Province Assembly has so far drafted 70 laws and the upcoming winter session will remain as the legislative session.
