NEW YORK: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has asserted that nations emitting carbon should provide compensation to those that do not.

Speaking as the keynote speaker at a program on Parliamentarians for Fossil Fuel Free during the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Prime Minister Oli emphasized Nepal’s commitment to advocating for this stance.

He highlighted Nepal’s efforts to combat climate change, noting that the country has maintained zero carbon emissions while suffering from the impacts of climate change largely caused by developed nations.

PM Oli cited the melting glaciers in the Nepal Himalayas, including Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest), as a pressing example of this issue.

The Prime Minister urged developed countries to increase their funding for climate adaptation, as established by the Paris Agreement. “Our future is bright because we are investing for the future,” he stated.
