Lawmaker Amaresh’s sarcasm: Split Tribhuvan University property for party offices

KATHMANDU: Independent lawmaker Dr. Amaresh Kumar Singh has sniffed sarcasm proposing that the ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), divide the property of Tribhuvan University to create party offices.

Speaking during an emergency session of the House of Representatives on Thursday, MP Singh recommended that the two parties split the university’s assets equally.

“Let the two parties divide the property of Tribhuvan University in half and establish their party offices on the respective portions. Allocate half of the 3,300 ropani land to Nepali Congress and the other half to UML,” he said.

He argued that the division of land should be formalized by registering it in the names of the parties, suggesting that this move could help address corruption concerns.

“All the students are sent abroad, and with a government comprised of these two parties, now is the opportunity to divide the land and register it in their names,” he added.

MP Singh criticized the major parties for their handling of corruption, emphasizing that despite being in power, the issue remains unresolved.

“Efforts to curb corruption are ongoing, but corruption persists. Even after 50 years, the issue remains. We object to allowing parties to delay addressing corruption by setting arbitrary time limits. Such practices should not be tolerated,” he concluded.
