KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has confirmed the safety of all Nepali students in Bangladesh.

Taking to social media on Monday morning, she reassured the public regarding the well-being of Nepali students and citizens residing in Bangladesh.

The Nepali Embassy in Dhaka remains actively engaged with local authorities, college administrations, and Nepali students to ensure their secure accommodation, safety, and provide necessary assistance, she said.

“All Nepali students and citizens in Bangladesh are safe,” affirmed Minister Rana.

Acknowledging the impact of recent developments in Bangladesh on Nepali students, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has implemented measures to ensure their safety and facilitate potential returns to Nepal if required.

Minister Rana disclosed the establishment of a dedicated ‘help desk’ within the Ministry for coordination, with instructions to the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka to assist students and facilitate their return journeys for those opting to come back to Nepal.

On Sunday, a significant number of Nepali students returned home, with 150 via air and 350 through the Kakarvitta border.

Minister Rana also emphasized ongoing coordination efforts with the embassy in Dhaka to monitor the situation and ensure the well-being of Nepali citizens in Bangladesh.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as of Sunday, approximately 1,200 students returned home from Bangladesh amid protests against the government’s employment quota system.
