Nepali victim’s family stages protest outside Russian Embassy in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Family members of Nepali citizens recruited in the Russian Army have staged a sit-in protest, pressing for their return home.

The protest, spearheaded by Kritu Bhandari, coordinator of the “Life-Saving Campaign of Nepalese Affiliated to the Russian Army,” commenced in front of the Russian Embassy in Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Monday.

Over sixty individuals joined the sit-in, advocating for the safe return of Nepalis serving in the Russian military.

Bhandari’s campaign has already facilitated the safe return of several Nepali soldiers, provided immediate rescue for those sent back to the battlefield, ensured proper treatment and compensation for the injured, and even secured the release of five prisoners of war held by Ukraine.

They are also striving to bring home the bodies of the fallen, locate the missing, and are demanding transparency regarding the number of Nepali citizens working in the Russian Army.
