NRB Governor Adhikari falls victim to identity fraud

KATHMANDU: Visitors to the official website of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) (https://www.nrb.org.np/) were met with an unexpected revelation today.

Contrary to the typical financial directives displayed on the site, a startling notification unveiled the ‘personal’ distress of Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

The notification, prominently displayed, disclosed a disturbing misuse of the Governor’s identity.

It conveyed, “Since it has been found that Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari’s name ad photo have been misused and created a WhatsApp account to communicate with various people, all stakeholders and the general public are requested to be aware of this.”

This revelation prompts a crucial question: In a country where the Governor of the Central Bank falls victim to identity fraud, can anyone else feel secure?

The incident raises concerns about the effectiveness of the government’s security measures.

Furthermore, the placement of such a significant notice as a ‘road block’ advertisement on the official website of the Central Bank begs another question: What message is the institution attempting to convey by taking such a public and unusual step?
