KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has called for an investigation into Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain over allegations of approving the building construction plan for Kathmandu Tower at the old bus park without following due process.

The announcement came during a press conference held on Friday, where KMC Spokesperson Naveen Manandhar shared an official statement.

The statement alleges that Guragain bypassed the formal approval system when sanctioning the construction plan and recommended action by the concerned authorities.

Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol has demanded a fair and thorough investigation into the matter.

“Strict action should be taken,” she said. “If there is a conspiracy, that must also be probed. Anyone involved must be brought to justice.”

Dangol stressed the need to determine whether Guragain acted alone or if others were complicit.

“If there is organized corruption, it should be uncovered, and action must be taken against all involved,” she said.

Calling on the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to step in, Dangol urged an immediate and impartial inquiry to uncover the facts surrounding the alleged irregularities.

“If the Chief Administrative Officer is found to be guilty, he must be relieved of his duties at KMC,” she said, adding that any signs of systemic corruption should be thoroughly addressed.

The Kathmandu Tower project, located in the heart of the city, has long been under scrutiny, and this latest controversy raises questions about governance and accountability within KMC.
