SAFF Women’s Championship: Bhutan defeats Sri Lanka

KATHMANDU: Bhutan has climbed to the top of Group ‘B’ in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 standings after defeating Sri Lanka.

In the match held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripreshwar on Monday, Bhutan secured a 4-1 victory over Sri Lanka, earning them four points from two games.

In their first match, Bhutan had held the host team, Nepal, to a goalless draw.

Bhutan’s Deki Lhazom opened the scoring in the 7th minute, giving her team an early lead. Sri Lankan captain Thushani Madhushika equalized in the 23rd minute, bringing the game to 1-1.

However, Bhutan regained the lead in the 32nd minute when Dorji Edon scored, doubling Bhutan’s advantage.

In the 76th minute, Deki scored her second goal, making it 3-1, and moments later, Namgyal Dema added another, securing a 4-1 victory for Bhutan.

Meanwhile, Nepal will play against the Maldives later today at 5:30 PM as part of Group ‘B’.
