377 industries shut down in Dhanusha, 9,000 lose their jobs

KATHMANDU: A total of 377 industries in Dhanusha district were closed during the last fiscal year 2023/24 due to various reasons.

According to Kishori Sharan Yadav, Chief of the Cottage and Small Industries Office in Dhanusha, of the defunct industries, 259 were categorized under commerce, while 118 fell under the industrial category.

The closures resulted in approximately 9,000 job losses.

Currently, the district has 536 small-scale industries, 551 micro enterprises, and 1,058 cottage industries still in operation.

These industries provide direct employment to around 7,000 people.

The Office reported collecting over Rs 7.7 million in revenue from the registration and renewal of industries in the last fiscal year.
