PM Oli receives two-thirds majority in Parliament: 188 in favor, 74 against
Prime Minister KP Oli has secured a vote of confidence from Parliament. Having been appointed Prime Minister with the support of the Nepali Congress (NC) on July 14, he has received a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Oli presented the confidence motion in accordance with Article 76(4) of the Constitution of Nepal and Rule 155 of the House of Representatives Rules of Procedure, 2079. Accordingly, he received 188 votes in favor, including those from the NC and other parties. There were 74 votes against him.
Madhav Nepal reminds Oli of past Parliament dissolution while extending best wishes
CPN-Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal extended his best wishes to Prime Minister KP Oli while reminding him of the previous dissolution of parliament. Speaking on the proposal for a vote of confidence presented by Oli in the House of Representatives on Sunday, former Prime Minister Nepal recalled the dissolution of parliament that had occurred during Oli’s tenure. Nepal urged Prime Minister Oli to reassess his actions.

Legal challenge to PM Oli’s appointment moves to constitutional bench
The case challenging the appointment of KP Oli, Chairman of the CPN-UML, as the Prime Minister of Nepal is now set to be heard by the Constitutional Bench. The case, initially overseen by Judge Bal Krishna Dhakal, has been transferred to the Constitutional Bench for further proceedings. The writ petition was filed on Monday by advocates Khagendra Chapagain, Shailendra Gupta, and Deepak Adhikari. The petitioners are seeking to annul Oli’s appointment and call for the appointment of a new Prime Minister as per Article 76(3) of the Constitution. President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as Prime Minister under Article 76(2) of the Constitution last Sunday.
Dedicated feeder and trunkline arrears: Trade unions warn of protests if power is connected without collecting dues
Four active trade unions of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) have warned against reconnecting electricity lines to industries using dedicated and trunk lines without collecting outstanding dues. In a letter to NEA’s Executive Director Kulman Ghising, the unions cautioned that failing to collect dues could plunge the authority into a severe financial crisis, threatening protests in response. “We are confident that no actions will be taken that harm the NEA or the future of the entire country’s electricity development,” stated the letter, signed by the presidents of the Employee Welfare Council, Employee Union, National Employee Union, and Employee Association, assuring “We are prepared to face any challenges NEA may encounter in the process of collecting outstanding dues for dedicated feeder and trunk line electricity charges. If actions against NEA’s interests occur, we will be compelled to protest.”
Bagmati govt: Province Chief calls for claim to Chief Minister
A call has been made for the formation of a new government in Bagmati Province. Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma has set a deadline of 5 pm on August 8 to form a coalition government in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. This follows the resignation of Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel on Sunday.

On Sunday, Prime Minister KP Oli unveiled a seven-point agreement reached between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML during a parliamentary meeting. Seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR), PM Oli publicly detailed the agreement made with Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the Nepali Congress, before the formation of the new government. A national consensus government will be formed under Article 76(2) of the Constitution to ensure political stability by involving other political parties. This government aims to safeguard national interests by controlling corruption, ensuring good governance, and accelerating national development and construction efforts.
RSP warns against unfounded accusations toward Deputy Speaker
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has cautioned against leveling unfounded accusations against Deputy Speaker Indira Rana. Speaking during today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), RSP lawmaker Sumana Shrestha warned Nepali Congress (NC) against leveling unfounded accusations against Rana. Shrestha’s caution came after Nepali Congress lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada called for an investigation into Deputy Speaker Rana.
RSP defends Deputy Speaker Rana amid US visa allegations
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has declared the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Indira Rana Magar, to be innocent amidst allegations of her writing a letter to the US Embassy seeking visa appointments. A letter written by Deputy Speaker Rana seventeen months ago to the US Embassy in Kathmandu has sparked significant controversy. In response, the RSP issued a press statement asserting Rana’s innocence and expressing the party’s support for a fair investigation.
Over 800 Nepali students depart Bangladesh for Nepal
The Government of Nepal has pledged to ensure the safety and protection of Nepali nationals, including students, in Bangladesh. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its active coordination with universities, relevant authorities, and law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh. Currently, about 800 Nepali students have departed Bangladesh for Nepal either by air or through land border crossings.
NEPSE rises by 61 points, trades over Rs 15 billion
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index approached the 2500-point mark before retreating slightly. On the day Prime Minister KP Oli secured a vote of confidence, the NEPSE index neared 2500 points. However, due to a minor correction at the end, the index closed up 60 points. During mid-trading, the NEPSE index reached as high as 2494 points.
