KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has issued a whip to its lawmakers to vote against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s trust motion, according to party leader Metmani Chaudhary.

Newly appointed PM Oli is scheduled to take a vote of confidence today.

The Constitution of Nepal mandates that a Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more political parties must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of their appointment.

Of the 275 members in the House of Representatives (HoR), PM Oli must garner the support of 138 members to win his confidence vote.

With the Nepali Congress, UML, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) joining the government, PM Oli is almost certain to win the vote of confidence.

He currently has the support of 177 lawmakers, including 88 from the Nepali Congress, 78 from the UML, seven from the JSP, and four from the LSP.

Additionally, three other parties that have not joined the government yet have announced their support for PM Oli.

They are the Janamat Party with six lawmakers, JSP Nepal with five, and the Nagarik Unmukti Party with four lawmakers.
