RSP defends Deputy Speaker Rana amid US visa allegations

Party alleges Nepali Congress and UML conspired to tarnish RSP's image

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has declared the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Indira Rana Magar, to be innocent amidst allegations of her writing a letter to the US Embassy seeking visa appointments.

A letter written by Deputy Speaker Rana seventeen months ago to the US Embassy in Kathmandu has sparked significant controversy.

In response, the RSP issued a press statement asserting Rana’s innocence and expressing the party’s support for a fair investigation.

According to the statement, after learning about Rana’s letter to the US Embassy, the party conducted an internal investigation.

They discovered that those for whom Rana had sought visa interview dates never left the country, and there was no evidence of any financial transactions.

The RSP stated that upon consulting with various diplomatic bodies and experts, it was found that many political party leaders have a practice of not only requesting interview dates but also making written or verbal recommendations for visas.

Additionally, the RSP affirmed its readiness to support a fair investigation into the matter if necessary.

The party accused the recently formed coalition of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML of orchestrating the allegations to damage the RSP’s reputation.
