Torrential rain forecast in Gandaki Province; Govt urges caution against floods and landslides



KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted torrential rain in some areas of Gandaki Province tonight, urging the public to take precautions against potential floods and landslides.

The monsoon system is currently influencing most parts of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and the eastern parts of Lumbini Province.

Local and westerly winds are affecting the remaining provinces.

The weather forecast is as follows:

Koshi Province: Partly to generally cloudy.

Madhes Province: Partly cloudy.

Bagmati Province: Light rain with thunder and lightning in some places.

Gandaki Province: Light rain with thunder and lightning in some places; heavy rain expected at one or two locations.

Lumbini Province: Partly to generally fair; light to moderate rain in some places.

Rest of the Country: Partly cloudy to mainly fair.

This afternoon, it will be partly cloudy in Madhes Province and the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

Tonight, the weather will be generally to completely cloudy in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces; partly to generally cloudy in Lumbini Province; and partly cloudy to mainly fair in the remaining areas.

Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in some places across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Madhes provinces, and in one or two places in the remaining parts of the country.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in one or two locations in Gandaki Province, which could impact daily life, agriculture, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air travel.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology advises all residents to take necessary precautions.
