KATHMANDU: Leaders from the main opposition, Nepali Congress, converged at the Thapathali office of Kantipur Media Group (KMG) to express solidarity with Kailash Sirohiya, the Chairman of KMG, following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Dhanusha District Court over allegations of dual citizenship.

Nearly two dozen NC leaders gathered at the KMG office in Thapathali on Tuesday, engaging in discussions with Sirohiya regarding the recent legal developments.

Ramhari Khatiwada, a leader of NC, who had a meeting with Sirohiya, confirmed that around 20 MPs joined him in extending their support.

In addition to Khatiwada, former foreign minister NP Saud, along with MPs Deepak Giri, Bir Bahadur Balayar, Pratima Gautam, Ramnath Adhikari, Raju Thapa, Chanda Chaudhary, and Rajendra Bajgai, among others, expressed their solidarity with Sirohiya.

Talking to Khabarhub, Khatiwada emphasized, “We’ve come to ascertain the situation amidst sudden news of an arrest warrant against Sirohiya. If this action is politically motivated, we strongly oppose it.”

Responding to the situation, Sirohiya affirmed his willingness to cooperate with the legal process, stating, “I am prepared to face any legal proceedings if found at fault.”

However, he conveyed concerns that the arrest warrant might be a reprisal for Kantipur’s coverage of the cooperative fraud case.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sirohiya reiterated his commitment to assist in the investigation within the bounds of the law.

He also emphasized that he would not succumb to any form of intimidation or interference resulting from the misuse of state power.

“As a responsible citizen, I am fully prepared to cooperate with any investigation as per legal requirements,” he stated.
