Task force on Parliamentary Probe Committee’s TOR holding meeting

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the task force formed to prepare the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the Parliamentary Investigation Committee in the cooperative fraud case is taking place today.

Although the task force, formed on Saturday, discussed the matter from Sunday morning until evening, the meeting ended without any conclusion due to disagreements on the matter of jurisdiction.

The ruling party and the opposition have not been able to agree on the mandate of the parliamentary investigation committee.

The Nepali Congress has been insisting that Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s name be mentioned while forming the committee, a point of contention with the ruling coalition parties.

A meeting of top leaders last Saturday agreed to form a parliamentary inquiry committee and formed a four-member task force under the coordination of Law Minister Padam Giri to finalize its mandate.

The task force includes Jiwan Pariyar of Nepali Congress, Mahesh Bartaula of CPN-UML, and Shishir Khanal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

The Nepali Congress has been obstructing the meeting of the Parliament, demanding a committee of inquiry into the cooperative case.
