Patan High Court overturns Election Commission’s decision on four RSP lawmakers

KATHMANDU: The Patan High Court has invalidated the Election Commission’s decision to take action against four lawmakers belonging to the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Earlier on Shrawan 9, the Election Commission had previously decided to take action against 2,500 lawmakers from the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies for failing to disclose their election expenditure.

In response, lawmakers Sobita Gautam, Shisir Khanal, Bhiraj Bhakta Shrestha, and Ganesh Parajuli filed a case at the Patan High Court, challenging the commission’s decision.

These lawmakers argued that the Election Commission’s decision to impose a fine of Rs 15,000 on each of them was erroneous and unconstitutional.
