KVDA officer faces lawsuit for allegedly amassing over Rs 32 million from unidentified source

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken action against Yam Kumar Karki, a section officer at the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA), filing a lawsuit in the Special Court.

Karki is accused of unlawfully accumulating property amounting to over Rs 32 million, with no identifiable source of income.

Karki stands accused of amassing wealth without being able to justify the source of funds, raising suspicion of illegal activities.

According to Narahari Ghimire, spokesperson for the CIAA, Karki’s total income from the time he entered public service in July 31, 2001, until April 23, 2023, was calculated at Rs 37.7 million.

However, his expenditures during the same period exceeded Rs 70 million.

In the lawsuit filed today, the CIAA has also sought the confiscation of assets registered in the name of Karki’s spouse, further intensifying the legal action against him.
