Transparency and accountability in governance is vital: President

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has said the objective of a federal democratic republic is to improve the status of citizens including those pushed into exclusion, and to make them feel their future is secured within this system.

Releasing a book entitled “Nepal’s Nidhi,” about the struggling life of the late Mahendra Narayan Nidhi amidst a ceremony at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas today, the President urged one and all to contribute to building a just, inclusive, prosperous and advanced Nepal by realizing the goal of the federal democratic republic.

As he asserted, transparency, accountability, and good governance are the first condition to win the citizen’s trust.

“Weaknesses on the part of those in power are never an excuse to hurt the norms and values of democracy”, he said.

He remembered Nidhi as a person who never compromised regarding the values of democracy.

He said the book will serve as a useful collection to learn about multi-dimensional Nidhi, the history of the establishment and development of democracy in Nepal, and socio-cultural awareness.

He added Nidhi who was inspired by BP Koirala and socialist leader Dr Rammanohar Lohiya dedicated his life to political, economic, and social transformations in the country.

The Head of the State remembered him as a leading figure of Nepal’s democratic movement.

“The role of Nidhi not only to challenge and overthrow the Rana and the Panchayat regimes but also to advance the transformation from backwardness and ill practices is exemplary. I take him as a personality with high passion, and simplicity despite various ups and downs during his political career,” the President said.
