CZOP appeals parties not to use children in by-election



KATHMANDU: The Children as Zone of Peace (CZOP)-National Campaign has urged the political parties and the election candidates not to use children in any of the programmes related to the by-election.

CZOP has also appealed to all the political parties and all those concerned to uphold schools as the zone of peace and not to organize any political programmes in the school area, as part of the campaigning for the by-election.

“We appeal to all political parties to abide by the Election Code of Conduct 2078BS and not to carry out any activity in contravention of Clause 7 and 66 of the Act Related to Children, 2075 BS as well as the School as Zone of Peace National Framework and Implementation Guidelines, 2068 BS,” the CZOP stated in a press release it issued today.

CZOP also demanded that child sensitivity should be ensured while raising the topic of use of children by the parties.

By-election is taking place on this December 1 to fill the 44 vacant posts of local levels, including two District Coordination Committee chiefs, two Rural Municipality Chairpersons, four Rural Municipality Vice-chairpersons, one Municipality Mayor, one Municipality Deputy Mayor and 34 Ward Chairs, which fell vacant throughout the country due to various reasons following the local level elections held in 2022.
