National Security Council recommends procedures for army mobilization in by-election

KATHMANDU: The National Security Council (NSC) has recommended before the Council of Ministers the procedures to be adopted for mobilization of the Nepali Army in course of the local-level by-election to be held on December 1.

The 36th meeting of the Council recommended for sending to the Council of Ministers the procedures for the mobilization of the army in order to conduct the local-level by-election in a free, fair and fear-free environment, said Rameshwar Dangal, Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

The Article 266, Sub-Article 1 of the Constitution of Nepal stipulates that there shall be a National Security Council for making recommendation to the Government of Nepal, Council of Ministers for the formulation of a policy on overall national interest, security and defence of Nepal, and for the mobilization and control of the Nepal Army.

Prime Minister KP Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Defence, the Chief Secretary, the Chief of the Army Staff and the Defence Secretary were present in the meeting.
