Lumbini Province Chief Minister Mahara to seek vote of confidence on Sunday

KATHMANDU: Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Jokh Bahadur Mahara is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence on Sunday.

According to the province secretariat, a meeting of the provincial assembly to discuss CM Mahara’s trust motion has been called for 1 PM on Sunday.

The need for a vote of confidence arose after the CPN-UML withdrew its support for CM Mahara, following the formation of a new alliance between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML at the central level.

The Constitution mandates that the Chief Minister must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days if any coalition member withdraws its support from the government.

CM Mahara, the parliamentary party leader of the CPN (Maoist Center), was appointed on Chaitra 23 with the support of 29 UML lawmakers, 10 from the Maoist Center, four from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, three from the Janata Samajbadi Party, one from the CPN (Unified Socialist), and one independent lawmaker.
